I’m truly honored to be participating in this historic event. Please join myself and other talented artists this Thursday at the Whitney Museum for performances in commemoration of the Stonewall Riots. Our host and curator, Tiona Nekia McClodden will be debuting her new performance, “Iron Fist In A Velvet Glove,” and I will performing a selection of my own work. Honorees for the evening will include the incredible Yin Q, Efrain John Gonzales, Steven G. Fullwood and Viola Johnson. I truly hope you can join us for what will surely be a memorable night.

Event Summary:
In collaboration with 2019 Whitney Biennial artist Tiona Nekkia McClodden and inspired by the Meatpacking District’s queer club culture, the Whitney celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots with a free after-hours event featuring DJ SHYBOI, performances, and viewing of the 2019 Whitney Biennial.
The celebration will include drinks with music and performances by McClodden and other guest artists. The evening will conclude with a walking tour focusing on the Meatpacking District’s queer club history. Interested guests should meet the tour guide by the entrance to the High Line at 9:30 pm.
This event is for visitors age 21 and over. The event is free but registration is required.
Tiona Nekkia McClodden is a visual artist, filmmaker, and curator whose work explores and critiques issues at the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and the traces of Black genealogies. Her interdisciplinary approach traverses documentary film, experimental video, sculpture, and sound installations. She has exhibited and screened work at the Institute of Contemporary Art-Philadelphia; MoMA; MOCA LA; Art Toronto’s VERGE Video program; MCA Chicago; MoMA PS1; Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland; Kansai Queer Film Festival in Osaka and Kyoto, Japan; and the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, among others. McClodden has been awarded the 2019 Guggenheim Fellowship in Fine Arts, the 2018–19 Keith Haring Fellow in Art and Activism at Bard College, and the 2017 Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award.
